Costa happy to stay at Chelsea, says Conte
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists that Diego Costa is happy at Stamford Bridge.
The Spin international, who had his head turned by an approach from former club Atletico Madrid, will get his first taste of action on the Blues’ pre-season tour of the United States when Conte’s team face AC Milan in a game to open the billion-dollar US Bank Stadium today.
Conte is hoping that Costa shows that he is committed to the Chelsea cause after shaking off a back problem that has sidelined him in America.
At the weekend, Conte admitted that he did not know whether the 27-year-old would still be a Chelsea player when the transfer window closes.
But last night he said: “I repeat that Diego Costa is a Chelsea player - and that’s the most important thing in this moment.
“He is happy with us and he is happy to stay with us.
“Diego has recovered from his injury and he is fit for the game against Milan, but I will decide the team and formation before the game.”
