Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has signed for Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers.

The reigning MLS champions, who are currently just outside the play-off places in the Western Conference, have announced the addition of the 30-year-old centre-back to their squad.

Taylor made over 250 appearances for Newcastle before leaving St James' Park following the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.
