Barcelona Finally Reveal What They Actually Paid for Neymar
Bartomeu reportedly claimed that the club paid over
€100m to acquire Neymar in 2013. However, as part of
recent legal proceedings between Barca and Spanish tax
authorities, the club have revealed the actual fee that
they paid, and it is shockingly low.
The investigation into the transfer began after Brazilian
investment group DIS complained that they were cheated
out of getting their fair share of the fee. They were
entitled to 40% of the sale price, but claimed that they
were given less because the official terms of the deal
were not released.
Now that the case is over, Barcelona have revealed all
the relevant financial records. According to Spanish
press, "it’s been confirmed that 17.3m of the transfer fee
to sign Neymar, while Barca paid an additional 2 million
euros to Santos after Neymar was picked in final three for
the Ballon d’Or award."
This price is an absolute steal, as Neymar is now one of
the best players in the world, and is still only 24.
Barcelona have just signed him to a new 5-year contract
extension, hoping he can continue to help them be one of
the best teams in the world.
Neymar signed a contract extension that will tie
him to Barcelona until 2021
